CONFIDENTIAL · MARIANA × HIVE
02 · MISSION
Hive retrofits industrial machines and runs them as a service. A supervising operator at our centre handles the edge cases; the model runs the routine. Customers buy the work, not the platform.
The field is the only judge. A demo or a dashboard can be wrong. A machine running an eight-hour shift in a quarry, in winter, without a human touching it, cannot.
03 · THE TEAM
04 · BACKING
Hive is owned through Percept Investment, the founders' vehicle. The journey from the Red Rock exit through Hive's first years has been largely self-funded.
A large seed round is closing and becomes public in early June 2026. What's already public: Børge Hald — co-founder of Medallia, sold to Thoma Bravo for $6.4B in 2021 — is joining the board.
The round includes other large investors, including a US lead. We share names in person.
05 · WHAT WE DO
Cameras and lidar on the machine. A model trained on labelled cycles decides what to do next. An action expert turns that decision into joint commands at the machine layer.
The architecture works across forklifts, wheel loaders, terminal tractors and cranes. The customer keeps the machine, the dealer and the service contract; we add the autonomy on top.
A supervising operator takes over the moment the model loses confidence. The handover happens in under five seconds. Every intervention is two things at once: a guarantee that the work gets done, and a training signal that makes the next machine better.
Operators are not a scaffold on the way to "full autonomy." They are the engine that makes autonomy possible.
06 · HOW WE GOT HERE
In 2009 Christoffer Jørgenvåg founded Red Rock in Kristiansand to automate offshore lifting — the heave-compensation hardware and remote-supervision software that lets a crane move heavy loads between a ship rolling on the sea and a platform fixed above. Over twelve years the team shipped more than three hundred mission-critical systems into the offshore industry.
In October 2021, Ocean Infinity — the Austin-based autonomous-maritime operator behind the twelve-vessel Armada fleet — bought Red Rock and folded the remote-supervision stack into its autonomous ocean operations.
The same engineering team kept building. Worked with several Norwegian industrial players on terminal tractors, gantry cranes and intralogistics. Self-funded most of the way.
Hive Autonomy was incorporated in August 2022. Forty people today, growing.

Former co-founder of EMerald Geomodelling, the spin-off acquired by Xcalibur Multiphysics. Earlier, investment partner for construction at Startuplab's pre-seed fund and Head of Innovation at AF Gruppen. Ten years before that on live infrastructure projects — site management across large-scale construction in Norway.
10 · WHERE WE WORK
11 · VISION
Imagine building in the real world the way kids build in Minecraft. You want a house in a certain style — you place the walls, walk through it, change your mind, take a wing down, try a different roofline. The machine does the building. The cost is energy.
That is the shift LLMs created for software. You sit with ChatGPT or Claude and you build something just to see what it looks like. You throw it away if it doesn't work. The friction is gone.
Physical AI brings the same shift to the rest of the world. Every machine on every site assignable to a task at the cost of energy. A hundred thousand times faster than today. Materials reused, because tearing down and rebuilding is no longer the bottleneck.
Wheel-loader autonomy at a copper mine is one step toward that.
